Are we Approaching Another Roaring 20’s?
Prior to Covid, the 1918 influenza pandemic was the most severe pandemic in recent history. It is estimated that about one-third of the world’s population became infected with the virus and killed about 675,000 people. The encouraging news is that just a few years after this pandemic, the economy saw a strong rebound as industry soared and pent-up demand for celebrations skyrocketed.
While corporate events continue to show slow progress, it is encouraging that we are finally beginning to see strong movement with social events. Over the past month, we have been inundated with calls from college campuses who are eager to provide students with opportunities to safely gather. Weddings and other social events have seen a large spike. Despite the gloomy forecast, it’s possible to imagine that we are approaching a decade similar to the roaring 20’s where people who have been confined over the past 19 months are burned out on zoom and need an outlet to release the pent up tensions and connect in a live event setting.
Silent Discos are picking up steam as they offer new ways to get around Covid, by holding outdoor events where guests can easily space out. To the onlooker, these quiet events seem a bit odd. However, it only takes a few minutes for skeptics to become converted. Joseph Dziedzic, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Hialeah recently attended his first Silent Disco and commented, “This was an absolute blast! I was a little skeptical at first, but no longer. Love this idea.”
The future of events will remain to be seen. But it is clear that everyone is ready to move forward and live events appear to be returning in greater numbers. Silent Discos offer a great option for engaging diverse crowds, while outdoor events offer Covid compliant protocols that align with the CDC guidelines.
